Frozen in Time | Eskilstuna, Sweden
From directly above Eskilstuna, a small cabin sits at the exact boundary between frozen lake and snow-covered forest - the white ice of the lake on one side, the blue-grey frosted canopy on the other, a bare deciduous tree spreading above the roof like a printed pattern.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
The lakes around Eskilstuna in Södermanland freeze hard in a good Swedish winter - the ice forming first at the sheltered edges where the forest breaks the wind, then spreading outward across the open water until the whole surface is white. The cabins built at the forest edge for summer use sit quiet and closed through the winter months, the snow accumulating on their roofs until the load matches the surrounding ground. From altitude the cabin reads as the only geometric form in a composition of organic shapes - the bare branches of the deciduous tree above it drawn against the white ground like ink on paper, the ice of the lake extending to the left with no visible boundary between ice and sky.
The near-monochrome palette - pale white ice, blue-grey forest, the dark tracery of bare branches - gives this image a stillness and quietness that few winter images achieve. It works in spaces where something specifically Swedish, winter and meditative is the intention.
