Stockholm | Stockholm, Sweden
From altitude above Stockholm at golden hour, a hot air balloon drifts at rooftop level over the city - the warm ochre facades of Kungsholmen below it, Lake Mälaren catching the evening light behind, the whole city spread out in the haze of a late summer evening.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Stockholm from altitude rewards the time of day as much as the altitude itself - the city's warm stone and render facades absorb the golden hour light and hold it, the water channels between the islands reflecting it back from every direction. This image was shot with a hot air balloon in the middle distance, drifting low over the rooftops on the kind of still autumn evening when the city is at its most itself. The balloon - pale cream against the hazy warm sky - sits at exactly the altitude where the city is most readable, low enough to show the street grid and the building facades, high enough to take in the waterways and the distances beyond.
Where Stockholm Central shows the city from helicopter altitude in full geographic context, this image is more intimate - closer to the city, warmer in light, the balloon giving it a sense of movement and occasion. The two work as a natural pair. On its own this image works in any space and particularly resonates for anyone with a connection to the Swedish capital.
