Packed to the Shore | Gullholmen, Sweden
From above, Gullholmen reveals what centuries of island life produce — orange rooftops and white timber walls pressed to the granite edge, the Bohuslän skerry coast stretching cold and bare behind it.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Gullholmen sits in the outer archipelago of Bohuslän, on Sweden's west coast — reachable only by ferry, built on a granite island so small that the houses have nowhere to go but toward each other. From the ground you feel the density. From above, you see the logic of it: every wall angled to catch light, every gap between buildings just wide enough for a person to pass through. A fishing community that has worked this way since the 17th century, unchanged in its essentials.
This frame was made in low directional light, the sun close to the horizon and coming in from the south — the kind of light that turns terracotta warm and pushes the water toward a deep, cold blue. The outer skerries behind the island are stripped bare: no trees, no soil, just rock and sea. Gullholmen sits in the middle of it, dense and warm and entirely out of place. That tension is what the image is about.
