Palm Beach | Beau Vallon, Seychelles

Aerial fine art  ·  Tobias Hägg

From directly above Beau Vallon, the dense tropical canopy of Mahé meets white coral sand and turquoise water - palm crowns leaning over the shore, dark granite boulders casting deep blue shadows in the shallows, the three elements compressed into a single frame with no sky and no horizon.

Beau Vallon on the northwest coast of Mahé is one of the Seychelles' most celebrated beaches - a long arc of coral sand backed by takamaka trees and palms, with the granite boulders that define the Seychellois coastline scattered through the shallows. These boulders are some of the oldest exposed rock on earth, granitic formations dating back over 650 million years, worn smooth by millennia of Indian Ocean swell. From directly above, the composition resolves into three distinct zones - the vivid green canopy, the pale sand, and the turquoise water - with the dark boulders as punctuation marks between the sand and the sea.

The colour range here is exceptional - deep jungle green, white sand, turquoise-blue water and the dark brown-grey of ancient granite all present simultaneously. It works in any interior that needs warmth, colour and the specific quality of tropical light, and pairs naturally with Beau Vallon and Anse Lazio from the same island group.
