The Costa Brava runs along Catalonia's northern coastline, where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean and the shoreline breaks into a series of small coves and wide sandy bays. From altitude the water shifts through every register of blue and green depending on depth and sand type, and the human presence on the beach - normally the dominant experience at ground level - shrinks to almost nothing. One person, one umbrella, a shadow. The scale inversion is total.
The image works through restraint - vast pale sand, a strip of deep blue water, and a single point of colour at the centre. It suits spaces that need something calm and quietly Mediterranean without the visual noise of a typical travel photograph.
