Lake Bled | Lake Bled, Slovenia
From directly above Lake Bled, four traditional pletna boats move across deep teal water - each one a different coloured canopy, each heading in a different direction, the dark lake making them read as pure colour shapes with no sense of scale.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Lake Bled in the Julian Alps of Slovenia is one of the most visited lakes in Europe - an alpine glacial lake of extraordinary clarity, deep teal in colour, with a small island at its centre carrying a Baroque church that has been a pilgrimage destination since the 8th century. The pletna are the traditional flat-bottomed wooden boats that have made the crossing to the island for centuries - hand-rowed by boatmen whose families have held the hereditary right to operate them for generations. From altitude the identity of the lake disappears entirely and what remains is the composition - four small colour objects on a near-black surface, each one moving independently, their wakes the only indication of direction and speed.
The image works as pure graphic composition - dark ground, four colour points, total simplicity. The variety between the canopy colours gives it warmth and human detail without any readable context. It suits spaces where something visually quiet but compositionally precise is needed.
