Shattered Ice | Kvicksund, Sweden
From altitude above Kvicksund, the first ice of winter has broken free and begun to drift - white geometric slabs moving slowly across dark water, each one a different shape, none of them touching.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Kvicksund sits at the narrow strait connecting Lake Mälaren to the waters of central Sweden - a place where the seasonal freeze arrives early and breaks unpredictably. The window between freeze and thaw, when the ice has cracked and begun to move but has not yet melted, produces a landscape that exists for only a few days each year. From altitude the floes read as white shapes on a dark ground - closer to a Matisse cut-out than a photograph, but entirely unedited.
The high contrast between the white ice and near-black water gives this image a graphic clarity that works in almost any interior. It is particularly strong in larger formats where the individual shapes of the floes become legible.
