The Divide | Cable Beach, Broome, Western Australia

Aerial fine art  ·  Tobias Hägg

Cable Beach, Broome — the wave edge as a single unbroken line. Turquoise Indian Ocean on one side, warm golden sand on the other. A lone figure stands at the waterline, their shadow the longest thing on the beach.

Cable Beach stretches 22 kilometres along the Indian Ocean coast of Broome, Western Australia — one of the most isolated and visually extraordinary beaches in the world. At low tide, when the water pulls back and the wet sand catches the late afternoon light, the beach becomes a study in two colours: the deep vivid turquoise of the Kimberley coast and the warm gold of ancient pindan sand. From altitude, the wave edge between them is a single clean line drawn across the frame.

Smooth Lines is one of the most minimal images in the Airpixels collection — almost nothing in the frame except colour, texture and that one line. The figure standing at the waterline is easy to miss at first. When you find them, the scale of everything else shifts. A print that brings quiet into any room it enters, and rewards the longer look.
