Molten Core | Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland
From altitude above the Reykjanes Peninsula, lava from the Litli Hrútur eruption carves channels through black highland rock - deep red against absolute black, the earth's interior visible on the surface for the first time in centuries.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Litli Hrútur erupted on the Reykjanes Peninsula in July 2023 - the third eruption in the area in two years, part of a reawakening of volcanic activity along the Reykjanes ridge that geologists had not seen for eight centuries. The lava field it produced moved slowly enough to photograph but fast enough to reshape the landscape permanently - covering roads, filling valleys, adding new land to Iceland's surface. From altitude the visual logic of the eruption is total: black basalt, red lava, the precise boundary between what has already cooled and what is still moving.
This is one of the few images in the collection that documents a specific geological event at a specific moment in time. The black and red palette is stark and immediate - it works in spaces that can hold something with real visual intensity, and carries a weight that purely abstract images do not.
