Pools of Rittak | Rittak, Swedish Lapland
From altitude above Rittak in Swedish Lapland, a sand island sits in glacial meltwater the colour of shallow tropical sea - warm gold vegetation at its centre, the pale sand tapering to a point where the current divides, turquoise in every direction.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Rittak sits deep in the Laponian Area of Swedish Lapland - a UNESCO World Heritage wilderness where glacial rivers carry fine rock flour from the remaining ice fields down into a network of braided channels and shallow lakes. The suspended sediment gives the water its characteristic pale turquoise colour, identical in appearance to tropical shallows but formed by entirely different geology in a landscape that sees snow nine months of the year. The gold at the centre of the island is low-growing Arctic vegetation - dwarf birch or crowberry - caught at the point in the short Lapland summer when the colours peak before the freeze returns.
The palette here is one of the most unexpected in the collection - warm gold and cool turquoise in combination, a colour relationship more associated with the Maldives than the Swedish north. It works in any interior that needs something with warmth and visual complexity, and rewards close inspection for the texture of the sand, the sediment patterns in the water, and the detail of the vegetation at the island's centre.
