"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
The Salinas de Torrevieja on Spain's Costa Blanca is one of Europe's largest commercial salt lakes - a shallow hypersaline lagoon where the water colour shifts constantly depending on season, temperature and brine concentration. At its most saturated the Dunaliella salina algae that pigments the water produces not just red but a deep magenta and purple, visible from altitude as distinct tonal zones within the same body of water. This image captures that rarer moment - the point where the chemistry of the lake tips from crimson into violet.
The purple and deep red palette is unusual in aerial landscape photography and gives this print a singular presence on a wall. It works as a centrepiece in spaces with neutral or dark surroundings where the colour range has nothing to compete with - and rewards close inspection for the mineral texture visible within each tonal zone.
