Sarek - Rapa Valley | Sarek, Swedish Lapland
From altitude above Sarek, the Rapa River meets its lagoon at the peak of autumn - pale glacial water surrounded on all sides by gold and amber birch canopy, white sand deposits spreading from the river mouth into the still pale blue of the lake.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."

Sarek National Park in Swedish Lapland is one of Europe's last true wildernesses - no roads, no bridges, no facilities, accessible only on foot or from the air. The Rapa River carries glacial meltwater down through the valley and into a broad shallow lagoon where the current slows and the rock flour it carries settles out, building a white sand delta that extends further into the still water with every flood season. In late September the birch forest that surrounds the lagoon turns in a matter of days - the whole valley gold and amber against the pale blue-white of the sediment-laden water. From altitude the lagoon reads as a pale oval form in the centre of the autumn canopy, the sand deposits at its edge tracing the shape of the current beneath the surface.
Where Sarek Rapa Valley II focuses on the river meanders and the water colour, this image gives the full context of the lagoon and its relationship to the surrounding forest. The two work naturally as a pair but each stands completely on its own. The warm gold and pale blue-white palette makes this one of the most quietly beautiful images in the collection.
