The Maze | Xiapu, China
From altitude above Xiapu, fish farming enclosures scatter across pale blue tidal water like marks on a canvas - each one a dark circle or oval of netting, a small boat threading between them and leaving the only straight line in the frame.

"The quality of the images was greater than I could have ever hoped for. I am proud to call myself a collector of his work."
Matthew D. ·
Xiapu County on China's Fujian coast is one of the most intensively farmed tidal zones in Asia - its shallow flats supporting vast networks of fish enclosures, kelp farms and oyster beds that are invisible from the shore but fully legible from altitude. The circular and oval netting enclosures used for fish farming are placed across the tidal flat in loose clusters, their spacing determined by water flow and farm management rather than any geometric plan. From above the result looks entirely intentional - a scattered composition of dark rings on pale blue water, the working boat between them the only element that breaks the stillness of the pattern.
The cool blue palette and the graphic simplicity of the circles give this image an unusual calm - it reads as pure abstraction from a distance and as a working coastal landscape up close. It suits any interior where something with visual quiet and graphic precision is needed.
